The US Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) reports that in 2001 the purchasing power parity of Bosnia and Herzegovina's exports was $1.1 billion while imports totaled $3.1 billion resulting in a trade deficit of $2 billion. The International Monetary Fund (IMF) reports that in 2001 Bosnia and Herzegovina had exports of goods totaling $1.17 billion and imports totaling $3.92 billion. The services credit totaled $288 million and debit $228 million. Although Bosnia and Herzegovina runs large trade deficits, due to low domestic production, the gap between imports and exports in the early 2000s was narrowing steadily. Export growth in 2001 was fueled by duty-free access of Bosnian exports to the EU.
